As a rule, October to March is the most comfortable window for North India (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Rajasthan) and Central India's wildlife reserves, while South India and Kerala are pleasant from November through February. October to March offers cool, dry, comfortable sightseeing weather. April to June turns hot, especially in Rajasthan; July to September is the monsoon, humid with intermittent heavy rain.
Most Central Indian reserves are open October to June and close for parts of the monsoon (roughly July–September). Sighting frequency is often considered higher March to June, when vegetation has thinned, though this comes with hotter daytime temperatures.
October to March is the classic dry season. June to September brings Kerala's monsoon — lush and dramatic, but with heavy rain that can disrupt outdoor plans.
March to June and September to November suit most hill towns. The high Char Dham pilgrimage route is generally accessible only May to October. Winter (December–February) brings snow to higher elevations and cold at altitude.
