Uttarakhand & the Himalayas

Uttarakhand is where the Gangetic plain meets the Himalaya — forested hill stations, the source pilgrimage towns of the Char Dham, Jim Corbett's wildlife-rich foothills, and Rishikesh's riverside yoga and rafting scene, all within a few hours' drive of Delhi.

Plan My Uttarakhand Trip

Share your details and we'll call or WhatsApp you back — usually within 24–48 hours.

This is also the region our team knows best: Visit India Tours is based near Ramnagar, on the edge of Corbett Tiger Reserve, and we plan Uttarakhand itineraries with genuine local knowledge of road conditions, altitude and season.

Wildlife sighting disclaimer: Tiger and other wildlife sightings occur in a natural, unfenced habitat and can never be guaranteed on any safari, regardless of the number of drives booked. We structure itineraries to give you the best reasonable opportunity to see wildlife — including multiple drives and experienced local naturalists — but we do not promise, and you should not expect, a guaranteed sighting.

Practical Information

Planning Notes

Best time to visit
March–June and September–November for most hill destinations; the high Char Dham route is generally open only May–October
Road travel
Hill roads are winding with lower average speeds than the plains — journeys are timed generously and with experienced hill drivers
Altitude
Most towns (Nainital, Mussoorie, Rishikesh) sit below 2,200m and need no acclimatisation; Auli, Chopta and the Char Dham sites go considerably higher, where we build in a slower pace
What to pack
Layered clothing year-round in the hills, a warm layer even in summer evenings, and proper footwear for any walking sections
FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Uttarakhand from Delhi?

Rishikesh and Haridwar are roughly a 5–6 hour drive from Delhi; Nainital and Corbett are 6–7 hours; the high Himalayan areas take longer and are usually reached over two days.

Can Uttarakhand be combined with the Golden Triangle?

Yes — it's a natural extension for travellers who want to add mountains and wildlife to a Delhi/Agra/Jaipur trip.

Is Jim Corbett good for tiger sightings?

Corbett has a healthy tiger population, though as with any reserve sightings are never guaranteed — see our wildlife disclaimer on the Tiger Safaris page.
